Youth Night

Teaching young people to do the work of the ministry is wonderful especially when they have the opportunity to put their lessons into action.  We are thankful for the way that the Perezes have organized the church and annex here in Colonia, allowing for the young people to serve in nearly every capacity.  It puts the church at a distinct advantage!

This weekend SIGMA ended and we completed our official responsibilities here with the youth.  It has been a tremendous pleasure and blessing serving the Lord in this ministry!  We trust God has allowed us to impact the lives of these young people.  Our prayer is that they will continue taking sermon notes, memorizing Scripture, doing their devotions, serving the Lord and following after Him as they seek His will for their lives.  Below are pictures of the last SIGMA meeting and last night's youth service.

Kaitlin playing and David leading for song service for the last SIGMA meeting.

Getting ready to watch Nu Delta's announcements video - absolutely hilarious!

These guys pretended to be news anchors, David Eastiene (Dav ideas tiene) and Brandon Oticias (Brando noticias).  This was their 2nd video.

Pastor Andres, Mexican missionary to Uruguayan Jewish people, preached on the need for workers in God's Harvest fields.  He reminded us about God's provision - where He calls He will provide!

Brandon and Jona heading off to pass out invitations to the Cola Wars rally we're holding next weekend.

Everyone heading up to Centro to pass out invitations to Cola Wars.

Reading their invitations.  You can see the girls in the center background.

Our 2nd annual ice-cream treat.  Jony is pretending to eat this cone he found in the trash.  I didn't realize it was actually from the trash can...GROSS!

Some of the girls enjoying their soft-serve.

The rest of the girls.

Our honorary youth...aka missionary/youth leaders kids.

Some of our youth leaders.  Seba was avoiding me, for some reason I've earned the title of paparazzi.  David had to take his sick brother home.  And I'm taking the pictures.  :-)

Thanks to all of you who were praying for the SIGMA year!  No doubt the Lord worked greatly as a result of your prayers.  Please continue to pray for these young people as they continue to walk with the Lord.  Please pray for David and Mark Perez as they will be leading the youth group.

I Pledge Allegiance....

"Make sure you dress for the weather because we'll be at the port. When you go in look for the American ship, you can't miss it." With advice like that we were not at all sure what the US Embassy had planned for this years 4th of July celebration but it sure did peak our interest and our hopes. We were not disappointed!!!

The USS Oak Hill was in the area because of cross-training exercises with Uruguay and Argentina. This was our first time on an in service American Military ship. They fed us good 'ol American BBQ - Burgers, dogs, baked beans, potato salad, chips and soda (Dr. Pepper and Mtn. Dew!!! Can't get either one here.). While we were eating the Captain took the time to greet us and chat for a little bit. Then they made the first cut into a HUGE cake with a Marine saber.

After lunch we were able to take a tour of the ship. Which was quite informative. Kaitlin has pictures of all the little kids sitting in the captains chair and at the helm. Brandon got a picture with him sitting in a new humvee. I was amazed at how the door was so thick and heavy. I embarrassed the daylights out of Brandon, Kaitlin and Bethany when I had them line up for a picture by a landing craft...I wasn't thinking of the side show the kids would become. The anchor of the Graff Spee - the Nazi ship sunk in the Montevideo Harbor. Part of the group that was in our tour of the ship. The man to left of Brandon is a Marine serving in the embassy for a year. The Harmon family is to the left of him. And on either end are embassy employees.

The pictures below were sent to us by the Harmons, fellow missionaries and dear friends of ours who were also enjoying the 4th on the USS Oak Hill.

The whole family! And some guy in the background.
Isabel and Felicia Harmon.
I was "getting" a kiss from Silas. When you ask him for a kiss he holds his cheek out for you to kiss him. That's the port of Montevideo and the skyscraper (the only one here) is the Antel building.
Cutting the cake with the Marine Saber. The captain is on the left.

After lunch we were enjoying our Dr. Peppers and Mtn. Dews. The soldiers directly behind us were Argentines.

Beginning of Bible Institute 2009

Scott kicked off the Bible Institute this past Saturday. This years institute began with a few changes. The first change being an orientation day. Since we have the new DVD's there needed to be a day where the students, along with Scott's help, could choose their classes.

Last year's schedule was a little overwhelming, and with the added responsibilities of being in charge of the ministry this year, he was wise to revise this year's to have classes on Saturday mornings only. Unfortunately, this does cut the student body down a bit because there are a couple students who aren't able to attend classes on Saturdays. Even so there are 10 students this year, two of them being new.

Everyone is excited about the use of the new DVD's...especially everyone that has had to rewind the tapes in years past trying to find where they left off in the last class.

There will be 5 levels running at the same time. Thankfully, Scott will have help from Missionary Pastor Andres and Missionary Pastor Daniel who each will be monitoring/teaching a level of classes each Saturday. Scott is grateful for the added help!
